How Teachers Can Help Students Beat the “Summer Slide” in ELA
May 25, 2016
Edutopia updated a great post last week on how teachers can help prevent summer learning loss. They focused more on reading than any other subjects, but they made some great suggestions.
Here were their recommendations:
1. Stay in Touch with Students
2. Send Them Home With Books and Magazines
3. Meet Students at Their Local Library
4. Start a Reading Program
5. Start a Digital Book Club
6. Encourage Students to Blog
7. Frame Simple Ongoing Projects
8. Hand-Pick MOOCs

Thank you for these suggestions. This is such an important issue that unfortunately too many of our districts are not addressing or if they are it is by way of expensive programs that remain out of reach for many of our students.
