The Summer Learning Network Seed Fund
Summer Matters is Supporting The Summer Learning Network and The Launch of A Seed Fund
What is the Network Seed Fund?
The Summer Matters Campaign is exploring the power of a Summer Learning Network supported by a consulting team from the Leadership Learning Community with network expertise. As an experiment in how to support self-organizing in the emerging summer learning network the consultants will launch a network seed fund.
The Network Seed Fund is a small pot of funding, $10,000 that is being used for small grants that seed creativity, joint projects and/or learning that has the potential to enhance summer learning experiences for CA youth.
Up to $2,000 will be dispensed to 5-6 teams that include two or more organizations, and that have a winning idea for a project that can be completed together between August 2016 and February 2017. For project ideas inspiration check out the Summer Learning Network site for sample ideas meant to activate and not limit your imagination. Please also listen to the recorded webinar explaining the Network Seed Fund in more detail and responding to questions.
Why Apply?
There are very little restrictions on these funds so it’s a chance to partner with another organization and try something new. Applying is easy. Answer several questions about your project in 2-3 pages. If your project is selected you will be able to participate in a virtual practice group with others who are funded and you will be supported by a team of coaches. Reporting is also simple. You can check out the application questions, requirements and reporting format on the Summer Learning Network Website.
How Will Proposals Be Chosen?
Have you heard of crowdsourcing? It’s a network principle that we are smarter together and should tap the wisdom of groups to get our best results. We have collected a mailing list from the work of the Summer Matters campaign of close to 200 people involved in summer learning work. They will be invited to vote for the top 10 proposals and a selection committee will pick the finalists, making sure that different regions are represented fairly.
This is a teaser. We hope you will want to learn more and better yet, that you are already thinking of a fun project and want to apply. Please visit the Summer Learning site for more information and, pass this announcement along to others in your network who might be interested!
