SUMMER LEARNING IN LOCAL CONTROL ACCOUNTABILITY PLANS
An update on the study of LCAP data for 2016
Methodology
The Partnership for Children & Youth reviewed Local Control Accountability Plans (LCAPs) from 50 Local Education Agencies (LEAs) in 2015 to understand district investment in summer programming. The 50 LEAs include 20/25 (80%) of the largest LEAs in California and at least one LEA from 33/58 (56%) of counties in California. This research builds on a 2014 LCAP review, and includes 40 of the same LEAs reviewed last year and 10 new LEAs.
Results
76% (38/50) of LEAs reviewed are planning summer programs for 2015-18.
55% of those (21/38) had a Summer Learning approach that includes academic and enrichment components.
42% (16/38) had a Summer School approach including intervention or remediation during the summer.
3% (1/38) had other expanded year actions like intersession or Saturday school.
82% (31/38) of LEAs with summer learning planned for 2015-18 have budgeted LCFF dollars in 2015-16.
69% (24/35) of summer learning was targeted for all students. 37% (14/35) was targeted solely or partially for English Learner students.
